How It Works
Expertise, made conversational.
Digital Scholar turns a credentialed expert's life's work — their books, research, transcripts, and voice — into an interactive AI clone you can question directly. Not a chatbot pretending to be smart. A specific person, answering in their own words, grounded in what they've actually written and said.
The Problem
The best minds are unreachable. The internet is unreliable.
When you need a real answer — legal, medical, financial, technical — you have two options. Search engines and generic AI give you confident-sounding summaries with no source and no accountability. Actual experts are booked out months, cost thousands per hour, or don't take calls at all.
Digital Scholar sits between the two. You get the depth of a subject-matter expert, cited from their own work, available at 2 a.m. — and when the question outgrows what a clone can answer, a direct path to book time with the real person.
How A Clone Is Built
Five steps. No shortcuts.
Aggregate and synthesize
We start with the expert's actual work — published books, papers, articles, interview transcripts, lecture notes, private drafts. Every document is parsed, cleaned, and stored with provenance intact.
Architect digital brain
Documents are split into semantically coherent passages and encoded into a vector index. When you ask a question, we retrieve the specific passages that matter — not a summary, not a paraphrase.
Persona and voice
We interview the expert directly, capturing how they think, what they refuse to answer, how they phrase things. Their spoken voice is cloned for audio. The result: a clone that sounds like them because it is built from them.
Grounded generation
Every answer is generated against retrieved passages from the expert's own corpus. Out-of-scope questions get a plain "that's outside what I've written on" — never a fabrication. The expert reviews and refines behavior over time.
Self-policing governance layer
Every reply is checked against yardsticks before it reaches you. Confidence banding scores retrieval strength (high / medium / low) and shows it on the answer. Shadowbox self-critique runs an adversarial model over the draft to catch drift, overreach, or unsupported claims and revise before sending. An independent judgment audit log records every question, draft, critique, and final reply for admin review — so the clone is accountable, not just plausible.
What You Can Do
Three ways to engage.
Ask by text
Type your question. Get a considered answer that reflects the expert's actual reasoning and terminology — with follow-ups, clarifications, and depth.
Talk out loud
Press to speak. Hear the expert answer back in their own cloned voice. Round-trip in under five seconds. Feels less like a search and more like a phone call.
Book the real person
When the clone recognizes a moment that needs the human — a novel case, a decision, a review — it hands you a personalized scheduling link on the spot.
What Makes It Different
Grounded. Bounded. Accountable.
Sourced from the expert, not the web
Generic AI is trained on the entire internet — good, bad, and wrong. A Digital Scholar clone reads only what its expert has authored or verified. If the expert didn't say it, the clone doesn't either.
Retrieval before generation
Every response starts by pulling the specific passages that match your question. The model composes an answer from those passages — not from a general impression of the topic.
Refuses out-of-scope
Ask a securities lawyer about heart surgery and you'll get "that's not my field." This is a feature, not a limitation. It's what separates a real expert from a generalist trying to sound like one.
The expert stays in the loop
Experts review sample conversations, refine the persona, add and remove sources, and update guardrails. The clone gets better because the human behind it is still involved.
